Dr. Schaefer Part Two

Why such resistance to the universe having a begining?

Infinite old universe would relieve us of trying to find a begining or a reason why we begin.

Fred Hoyle hated the Big Band and felt it was a Christian conspiracy.

Scientific Materialist want an ageless universe. Christians said it had a begining.

Scientific proof of the expanding universe, galaxies spreading out, background raditiation. Levels of Light.

Cosmologists accept The Big Bang.

Everything in the universe burst forth from intense concentrated begining.

Best evidence we have for the begining is exactly what would be predicted from the Bible. Quote from a Nobel Physicist. Will try to find it later.

Fred Hoyle: “even though scientists eschew religion, they actually deal with it even more than most religious people”.

“The First Church of Christ of the Big Bang.”

Big Bang Ripples- Stephen Hawking calls it the biggest scientific discovery of the 20th Cent. “New cosmic microwve background results strengthen the case for Inflationary Big Bang Cosmology.”

Ripples are a reflection of the temperature of the universe and support the inflating universe.

Summary so far: By defintion, time is that dimension where cause and affect happen. The begining of the universe had to happen outside of that dimension. God is not contained in the universe or in the space/time dimension.

A classfication of cosmological models

Is there a begining? Yes or No?

Yes: Creation from something

No: Eternal State of the Universe.

Stephen Hawking; A Brief History of Time sold 20 million copies which has started a run on popular scientific books.

“The God Particle”

In the begining was the void which contained nothing but the laws of nature were in place. It held potential. There is no date of the very begining.” We know nothing aobut the universe until a billionth of a second old.” Only God knows what happend about the begining.

Stephen Hawking: Actual point of creation is outside the realm of science.

Stephen Hawking: Actual point of creation is outside the realm of science.

Actually what he’s usually quoted as saying (and I haven’t yet found the primary source) is that the actual point of creation is outside the realm of currently known laws of physics which is not the same thing at all. (And I’d like to find the primary source for this, because not one of the google hits on it actually cites any source more specific than “in his writings”, and that phrase is used suspiciously often.)

How could anyone hate Big Band?? The universe was totally created for Glenn Miller. πŸ™‚

Best evidence we have for the begining is exactly what would be predicted from the Bible. Quote from a Nobel Physicist. Will try to find it later.

This quote is from Arno Penzias, co-discoverer of the cosmic microwave background:

β€œThe best data we have are exactly what I would have predicted, had I nothing to go on but the five books of Moses, the Psalms, the Bible as a whole.”

He apparently said this to the NYT, which I guess shows that physicists can look as stupid as anyone else when talking to journalists. Anyone looks stupid when saying “I would have predicted that” after the event.

    @Andrew
Yeah that line is pure gold πŸ™‚
Wonder why things are only found in the bible after they are found somewhere else.

I applaude the idea of live blogging, but a series of disjointed sentences, bereft of any context is nearly impossible to read, let alone comment on.
