Dr. Schaefer: Live Blogging Part One

November 17, 2009

After a bad intro on my part, Dr. Schaefer began his talk.

Dr. Schaefer made a great joke about being the only Michigan fan in the room.

He began by talking about Worldview: Each individual has her own experiences and out of them forms their own worldviews.

The Field of Cosmology: Is the universe eternal or have a begining? Is the Universe created? If not, why are we here? Who or what governs the constant laws of physics?

The fact of the begining of the universe and that it had a begining has been opposed philosophically, not scientificaly. He talked about Einstein’s desire to find an eternal constant, but couldn’t.

Am I the only one who gets a sick shudder when Christian speakers/writers start talking about “Worldview” and science at the same time?

Each individual has her own experiences and out of them forms their own worldviews.

So what? an individuals so-called worldview has no effect over reality, the Catholic worldview maintains that a phrase in latin over a cracker transmutes it into flesh. The truth is they can proclaim this to their heavens but it doesnt make it true in any way shape or form.

People may form all sorts of so-called worldviews, Steven Hawkings worldview has no effect on reality. any more than mine, yours or the popes.

Is the Universe created? If not, why are we here?

Assumes there is a reason, there may be no reason behind humanities existance , Even if the universe were created that would have no bearing on the reason behind humanities existance.

Who or what governs the constant laws of physics?

Assumes that something must govern over constant laws of physics lest they go all anarchist on us or something?
